How a Door Guard Helps During Flooding
While it is common to see flooding on the news causing devastation in far-flung corners of the globe, the truth is flooding is a threat in many locations. Anywhere near a water source is at risk of flooding and when it hits it can be catastrophic, destroying property and homes and destroying businesses and lives.
One of the most difficult aspects of flooding to cope with is its suddenness. Flooding can start with little or no warning and this can make defending against flooding extremely difficult. While flood defences like sandbags are often used to hold back flood waters and are fairly effective, they take time to fill and prepare, and quite often there is not enough warning to protect all the homes and businesses in a specific location with sandbag walls and other flood defences.
There are, however, some flood defences that can be installed on homes that can prevent flood waters from entering and causing the devastating damage that is all too common in flood-hit areas.
One of the main access routes into a premises, whether that be a home or business, is through the door. Doorways are not watertight and when flood waters approach a property it is usually through the door that the waters first seep through.
Preventing flood waters getting into a property this way can be easy to achieve, as long as you prepare in advance. Door guards are an effective method of preventing flood-waters.
The door guard is first fitted to the door-frame and can be made to fit almost any size doorway. Once the runners of the door guard are in place, the door is prepared, and once flooding starts the door guard can be slid down into place within seconds, sealing the door from flood waters.
Door guards are unobtrusive when not in use with the runners barely visible and they cause no effect on the normal opening and closing of the door. Obviously, once the door guard is in place the door can't be opened but then this should only be in times of flooding anyway.
Once fitted, door guards can be used time and time again so are essential in locations where flooding has either happened or is suggested likely to in the near future.
Once flood waters start rising it can often be too late to take measures so door guards are an important aspect to flood preparation, planning and defence.
